Is-there-negative-marking-in-the-CAT-exam

Yes. There is negative marking in the CAT exam.

As you would know from our previous post on types of questions in the CAT exam, there are both objective and ‘Type in the Answer’ question formats. While there is no negative marking in the ‘Type in the Answer’ question format, you do get penalized for wrong answers in objective type questions.

  • You get +3 marks for every correct answer in Objective type question.
  • 1 mark is deducted for every incorrect answer in Objective type question.
  • You get a 0 for every objective type question that you skip in the exam.

So, the key lesson from this post is that you should not blindly guess answers in CAT. It can really harm your overall score because of the negative marking in the objective questions.
