Business School Management College Rankings by MHRD 2016
Ministry of Human Resource Development recently released the rankings of India’s top management colleges. You can find the complete list here. While they have tried to remain neutral and follow a rigorous ranking process, the end results leave a lot to be desired. First of all, I would like to say that I really appreciate the ministry for doing so and also publicizing the same. I do not really remember such rankings being released, at least often, in the past. It would be fair to assume that these rankings are not “bought” with the help of advertising money. A decade ago, I would not even flinch to see IIPM in the top-10 in various rankings. Well, that is how it was. I am glad that things have changed and changed for the better. Is this ideal? No. But this is definitely a step in the right direction.

Personal opinion about flaws in the ranking

You can find a lot more data related to the colleges on the website and I would suggest that you should go through the same. While going through these rankings there were some obvious flaws that I could recognize. Here are the ones that I noticed. Do let me know via the comment section if you spotted some of them. I will update the list.

1. IIM Udaipur is ranked above IIM Khozikode and IIM Indore. Given the relatively long history of IIM-K and IIM-I, this is not something that I would agree with.

2. IMI-Delhi and IMI-Kol have definitely discovered some special sauce, that we do not know of, to be ranked above XLRI.

3. Narsee Monjee, XIMB, IMT-Gaziabad, FMS, NITIE, IIFT and plenty of other top colleges are missing from the rankings. That is something that doesn’t make too much sense to me.

4. Thiagarajar School Of Management (TSM) Madurai with an average salary of 5.3 LPA beats S P Jain, a bunch of IIMs, and plenty of other reputed colleges also looks a little odd.

If you find something else that is odd, do let me know. Also, if you found this post useful do remember to:
