Quantitative Aptitude – Quadratic Equation – The number of distinct real roots
Slot – 1 – Quantitative Aptitude – Quadratic Equation – The number of distinct real roots
Q. The number of distinct real roots of the equation (x+1/x)^2 – 3(x+1/x) + 2 =0 equals? Answer: 1
Solution :
Let x+1/x = a
So we get a^2-3a+2=0
(a-1)(a-2)=0
A=1,2
If we put a=1 we get the value of x as a complex number.
If we put a=x we get the value of x as1.
So only 1 real root can be found.
