Slot – 1 – Quantitative Aptitude – Percentage – In May, John bought the same amount of rice and the same

Q. In May, John bought the same amount of rice and the same amount of wheat as he had bought in April, but spent ₹ 150 more due to price increase of rice and wheat by 20% and 12%, respectively. If John had spent ₹ 450 on rice in April, then how much did he spend on wheat in May?
  1. ₹ 590
  2. ₹ 560
  3. ₹ 570
  4. ₹ 580
Answer: 2

Solution:
Money spent by John on rice in April was 450 .
Let the price of rice and wheat in April = x and y respectively
So in May , the prices will be 1.2x and 1.12 y in same order.
Now quantity bought in April = 450/x
As per question, extra money spend on rice = (450/x )*0.2x = 90
So extra money spend on wheat = 150 – 90 = 60
Let the amount spent on wheat be k in April then , (k/y )*(0.12y) = 60
K = 500
So money spent on wheat in may =500+60 = 560
