Q. A solid right circular cone of height 27 cm is cut into two pieces along a plan parallel to its base at a height of 18 cm from the base. If the difference in volume of the two pieces is 225 cc, the volume, in cc, of the original cone is?

Answer: 243

Solutions:
Height of smaller cone = 27 – 18 = 9
Ratio of height of original cone and smaller cne formed = 9:27 = 1:3
So ratio of volums = 1:27
Volume of two pieces will be x and 26x
Given 26x -x = 225
x = 9
thus original volume = 27x = 243
