Logical Reasoning – Ten musicians (A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, I and J) are experts

Slot – 1 – LR – Ten musicians

Ten musicians (A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, I and J) are experts in at least one of the following three
percussion instruments: tabla, mridangam, and ghatam. Among them, three are experts in
tabla but not in mridangam or ghatam, another three are experts in mridangam but not in tabla
or ghatam, and one is an expert in ghatam but not in tabla or mridangam. Further, two are
experts in tabla and mridangam but not in ghatam, and one is an expert in tabla and ghatam
but not in mridangam.

The following facts are known about these ten musicians.
1. Both A and B are experts in mridangam, but only one of them is also an expert in tabla.
2. D is an expert in both tabla and ghatam.
3. Both F and G are experts in tabla, but only one of them is also an expert in mridangam.
4. Neither I nor J is an expert in tabla.
5. Neither H nor I is an expert in mridangam, but only one of them is an expert in ghatam.

Q.4 If C is an expert in mridangam and F is not, then which are the three musicians who
are experts in tabla but not in either mridangam or ghatam?

E, G and H

C, E and G

E, F and H

C, G and H

Answer: 3 Solutions: Q.1 As it is given in point 4) and 5) Neither I nor J is an expert in tabla. And Neither H nor I is an expert in mridangam, but only one of them is an expert in ghatam, it mean I is an expert in ghatam only. Which also mean H is an expert of Tabla and J is an expert of mridangam.
From the given options , we know A is an expert of mridangam but we don’t know whether he is an expert of tabla or not.
Similarly F is an expert of tabla but he can also be an expert of mridangam .
We can’t say anything about C. Thus option 3) H is the suitable answer.

Q.2 As it is given in point 4) and 5) Neither I nor J is an expert in tabla. And Neither H nor I is an expert in mridangam, but only one of them is an expert in ghatam, it mean I is an expert in ghatam only. Which also mean H is an expert of Tabla and J is an expert of mridangam.
From the given options , we know B is an expert of mridangam but we don’t know whether he is an expert of tabla or not.
Similarly G is an expert of tabla but he can also be an expert of mridangam .
We can’t say anything about E. Thus option 2) J is the suitable answer.

Q.3 From statement point 1) and statement point 3) option 1) and option 2) can not be the correct choice as at least one among each of A and B , and one among F and G are expert in Tabla as well as mridangam.
Same is true for option 4) F can be an expert in both tabla and mridangam but not in ghatam.
Thus option 3) is our correct choice.

Q.4 As it is given in point 4) and 5) Neither I nor J is an expert in tabla. And Neither H nor I is an expert in mridangam, but only one of them is an expert in ghatam, it mean I is an expert in ghatam only. Which also mean H is an expert of Tabla and J is an expert of mridangam.
Let us represent the given data in a table as below:

Number of experts

Only tabla

3

H, F or G

Only mridangam

3

J, A or B

Only Ghatam

1

I

Only Ghatam and tabla

1

D

Only Tabla and mridangam

2

A or BÂ and F or G

If C is an expert in mridangam and F is not means E will be expert in Tabla and G will be expert in mridangam as well as Tabla . F will be expert only in Tabla.
