Think Outside The Book
Inception – Stuff that dreams are made of! Simply Wow!!
When I saw whopping points on a scale of 10 in various newspapers for the film, I sighed in relief. I did not bother to read the reviews as not much is left to the imagination if one always has a peek –a- boo into any magnum opus, through the eyes of the critic. Inception- what to say, first and foremost wow…what a film!! One can only sit back and expect a thriller from the makers of the Dark Knight. But this film defies all definitions. I will not write about the story or anything, the prospective viewers must be given a fair chance to discover this delight. Well all I can say is that watch out for some overtly complex situations, mind boggling sequences and in true bollywood ishtyle dhamaka! But then again I was just wondering in awe while watching the drama and excitement of Inception unfold before my eyes that, dhamaka ho to aisa! I mean seriously while the not at all fertile imagination of our Bollywood wallahs can only tiptoe on the boundaries of the banal and the Godforsakenly obvious storylines, the Hollywood patrons are rediscovering their mastery with every film that they make. While in a very talked about big budget, high intensity drama, over cloud 9 starcast Hindi movie one can only see the hero and heroine gyrating or ( the more advanced), day dreaming sequences of flying, sighing, guffawing and doing God knows what under starry skies and sunny beaches, the English films actually transcend the realm of reality in order to play havoc with our minds! Think about it, we have had several films that have challenged the real, starting from the good old Matrix to the Eternal Sunshine Of the Spotless Mind to the very recent Shutter Island. But what remains to be seem each time is the freshness of every film, the lucidity, the quest for pushing the audiences to the limit…and I love it! The Hollywood wallahs are so confident about their audience, each new film corroborates the fact that the filmmakers take it for granted that the people are intelligent and hence they give these people who invest money and time in the films, some very delectable and sumptuous food for thought. As for Inception again, outstanding editing- just mind blowing, very tight script (the script writer must have had several shots of espresso and sleepless nights to come up with it) crisp performances and edge of the seat excitement. I wish the film had a 3 D version!! I would rate it 4.5 on 5, the 0.5 owes to my discomfort as we got very bad seats and obnoxious neighbours who were giggly throughout the film, terming it as “a phunni phillum!!” Neways full on paisa wasool film but one statutory warning: It seems that this director is a big fan of Shutter Island because snippets of Dicaprio’s performances and some sequences of the film bear an uncanny resemblance to the afore mentioned movie. But all said and done, get set go for a crazy and zany cine fest! Cheers!
